Anti-Racism
Posted on March 23rd, 2007 at 11:28 am by year4 and

This half term, the children have been studying anti-racism and the school have entered a national competition, run by the “Show Racism the Red Card” charity. This is a charity supported by many professional football players. As there can only be one entry per school, two children from each class were chosen as runners up in a Green Park School competition. Rebecca and Esther both wrote a lovely poem each, as shown below.

We’re all the same

We’re all the same
Orange,purple,pink and blue
What does it mean to you?
Even though I’m not the same
Why won’t you let me play your game?

Don’t jugde me on what you think
because my skin isn’t the colour pink
I have come a long way
and my mum wants me to stay

I have come here
and I have a lot of fear
Don’t call me names
Let me play your games

Deep down inside me
I’m just the same you see
Please don’t be mean
I’m very clean

By Rebecca

Dear Diary

White,orange,brown and black
calling names behind my back.
They just say go away
Why won’t they let me play?
I feel angry, hot and mad
They really make me sad .
If we were just the same
The world would look so plain.
Whether black or white skin
With a frown or a grin
Well we’re all just the same.
They always call me names
and never let me play their games.
Oh I wish I could go away
but no I’m here to stay.
Oh I wish I was white
Because they’re just shining bright
Oh why do people have to be mean?
They really wreck the scene
Just look inside, can’t you see?
We’re the same, yes, you’re the same as me
Just because the colour of my skin
You have to take away my grin.

Sorry diary, ran out of words, write to you soon

Everybody in our class did a great assembly. Very well done. Have a look at some photographs at www.greenparkschool.phanfare.com

World War 2

The posters that the children made at home are excellent and have made a really interesting wall display in the classroom. The children showed great interest in this history topic and I was really pleased with the number of them who did extra research at home / brought things in to show. I realise that some of these items were very precious so thank you very much for allowing the children to share them with the class - it really does help to bring a subject to life when this is possible.

Ray’s of Sunshine

The sunshine in Y4 is growing by the minute! To add to our sunshine rays we have Sally, Rachel (also our new school council member for Y4 - well done Rachel!) Lydia, Paul, Owen and Greg. Well done to all of you - it really does say something positive about you that another child has remembered something nice that you have done and wanted you to be rewarded for it. Keep up the good work Y4.

Skeleton dance and Class Assembly

Thank you to all who were able to come and see our class assembly last week. I’m sure you will agree that the children were absolutely fantastic! I was so proud of them as I’m sure you were too. Thank you for helping them to find their costumes and to learn their lines - all the hard work really paid off. Here are just a few photographs from before the assembly - unfortunately there just wasn’t the time to take one of everybody. You will also see a few pictures from the Deyes Dance Show rehearsal (another enjoyable experience this year) which some of the boys repeated in the class assembly.
